Griffin William Sherry | Reflections (2023 NPR Tiny Desk Submission)
Took a moment to perform my new song "Reflections" up in my writing and painting studio above the garage to submit for consideration for this year's NPR Tiny Desk Contest. This (very uninsulated and unheated space) has become the place in our new house up in Maine where I can find a little solitude to create without worrying about noise or mess. There have been a lot of changes for me since last year this time, and learning to navigate those is what "Reflections" is about at its core.

REFLECTIONS
Rest your weary hands in mine
I’ve been up pacing with the darkest mind
Sit with me darling now, say everything will be alright
I won't believe you, but I will not fight
Dark is the river and bright the light
Hard is the living when you’re trying to do it right
I am lost in reflections that won’t let me be
If you could see me now
Would you recognize me?
I roam through the wreckage, with a thousand-mile stare
Nothing is altered, but the alter is bare
Who is the man you see, does he still look like me
Do I even care?
All these reflections and I’m not there
Dark is the river and bright the light
Hard is the living when you’re trying to do it right
I am lost in reflections that won’t let me be
If you could see me now
Would you recognize me?
Maybe it's a long time coming
Maybe I’m tired of running
Maybe I only look for air when I’m bout to drown
You’re the one that picks me up,
You’re the one who’s tough enough
You’re the one that showed me what reflections hide
Dark is the river and bright the light
Hard is the living when you’re trying to do it right
I am lost in reflections that won’t let me be
If you could see me now
Would you recognize me
